Tether Operations, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin, has announced its plan to launch US dollar-linked Tether (USDT) tokens on the Aptos network .
The integration aims to leverage Aptos’ tier-1 blockchain technology developed by former Facebook employees . Aptos, known for its speed and scalability, is positioning USDT to benefit from its fast-growing ecosystem. The move is part of Tether’s broader strategy to increase accessibility.
Aptos reported that it is gaining recognition for its blockchain infrastructure. Recent statistics show growth in the Aptos ecosystem, with the average number of daily active users increasing from 96,000 in January 2024 to 170,000 in July 2024.
In May, Aptos reported 157 million transactions processed in a single day, highlighting the network’s ability to efficiently handle massive transaction volumes. Aptos surpassed Solana, recording an astounding 115.4 million transactions in a single day, far surpassing Solana ‘s 31.7 million, according to Aptoscan.
Tether highlights one of the key advantages of the USDT integration on Aptos, namely the extremely low gas fees on the network. Transactions on Aptos cost only a fraction of a cent, making them much more economically viable for a wide range of use cases.
From micropayments to large-scale operations, this feature reduces the cost barrier for users, which could expand the adoption of digital currencies, the company says. This collaboration between Tether and Aptos is expected to improve the usability of USDT, making it a more attractive option for users from different economic backgrounds and industries.
“Aptos’ innovative technology offers a robust platform to facilitate faster and more profitable transactions with USDT,” said Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino. He stressed that this partnership is in line with Tether’s mission to lead through innovation while providing users with stable and reliable financial tools.
Aptos Labs CEO Mo Shaikh echoed this sentiment, stating that the USDT integration represents a significant milestone for the network. “This collaboration will leverage Aptos’ ability to process huge volumes and rapidly expand its user base,” Shaikh said.
