The advertising platform introduced by social messaging app Telegram allows channel owners to receive Toncoin rewards. On Wednesday, CEO Pavel Durov announced that Telegram’s advertising platform will be officially made available to advertisers in nearly 100 countries.
“Channel owners in these countries will start receiving 50 percent of any revenue generated by Telegram from displaying ads on their channels,” he said.
He noted that Telegram’s TV channels generate one trillion impressions per month. However, monetization is currently only ten percent. This is done through the Telegram Ads promotional tool .
Channel owners can benefit financially from this ad. In this regard, Telegram joins other big social media platforms, such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), which allow users to share ad revenue.
YouTube content creators currently receive 55% of ad revenue from YouTube’s affiliate program. However, in July 2023, X launched its ad revenue-sharing program with creators around the world, after which many creators reported receiving substantial payouts.
In his update, Durov, Telegram’s founder, said that “to ensure that payments and ad payouts will be fast and secure,” the platform will exclusively use the TON blockchain.
In October 2023, blockchain security firm Certik accredited the TON blockchain as the world’s fastest network. The blockchain handles 104,715 transactions per second, surpassing other well-known payment systems such as Solana, Polygon, Visa and MasterCard.
The blockchain’s track record of reliability in the past is another reason for Telegram’s choice of TON. To date, the network has not experienced any major disruptions. This underscores the scalability and robustness of the TON blockchain.
In addition, Durov pointed out that Telegram will sell ads and share money with Toncoin channel owners.
“This will create a virtuous circle in which content creators will be able to either cash out their Toncoins or reinvest this money in promoting and improving their channels.”
