The e-CNY research institute has been inaugurated to support the development of the central bank of China’s (CBDC) digital currency.
According to a recent MPayPass report, the institute was unveiled at the “Second e-CNY 2024 Sustainable Industry Development Seminar” in Suzhou, where industry experts gathered to mark the occasion. The seminar was co-hosted by the Suzhou City Digital Finance Industry Federation and MPayPass.
E-CNY Research Institute for Sustainable Development
The e-CNY Research Institute would function as a think tank composed of experts adhering to rational pragmatism and conservative innovation. Operating on a “joint expert construction” model, the institute aims to take advantage of market dynamics to promote the sustainable development of the digital yuan industry.
At the event, representatives of the initiating organization, along with Mu Chu, editor-in-chief of MPayPass, and Wu Wenjun, secretary general of the e-CNY Research Institute, led the official unveiling ceremony.
Mu presented Wu with a letter of appointment as Secretary General, who then proceeded to present certificates to the inaugural group of experts.
Experts coming from different backgrounds
The first group of experts includes representatives from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), MYbank, Suzhou Bank, Tencent, Huawei, JD Technology, Zhejiang University, Nanjing Audit University, among others.
The list brings together banks, payment and technology companies, academics and media to focus on industry research, project development, standard setting and talent development to strengthen industry cooperation.
on April 19, the institute will convene a kick-off meeting to outline its strategic direction and methodological approach. The meeting will focus on setting specific goals and planning the organization’s future initiatives.
In the future, the institute plans to expand its network of specialists and improve project implementation and standardization. By facilitating case sharing, rewarding excellence, evaluating projects and holding offline events, it aims to stimulate the development of the digital yuan.
